Filles du Roy: The Forgotten Founders of New France

Between 1663 and 1673, more than 800 young women were sent by King Louis XIV to New France to help stabilize a fragile colony. Later known as the Filles du Roy, they married, built families, and gave birth to over 4,500 children, laying the demographic and social foundations of what would become Québec and French Canada.

Emmanuel Dubois was born in France and spent most of his childhood there, but he lived in Canada for most of their life. Dubois studied history, obtaining a Master’s Degree from the Université de Montréal. Dubois recently wrapped up the “La Fayette, we are here!” Podcast which he had been doing since April 2022 to offer a Frenchman’s perspective on French history.

He previously joined us for a live stream on March 24, 2024 “The French Experience in New France” which can be found on our channel here.
